An Introduction to our School
|
Trekenner Community Primary is a small rural school about 5 miles from Launceston in Cornwall. At present it has 54 children with average class sizes for English and Maths of only 18 pupils. Our motto is 'Nyns Yu Tyller Gwell' which translates from Cornish into 'There's Nowhere Better'. Our strengths are a combination of a traditional strong bond between school and community and 21st century innovation which makes our school a place where children want to learn. |
The School is maintained and funded by Cornwall County Council. The school itself was built in 1878 originally being the school and school house (the latter now being the office / library and resource room).

Most of the pupils families live in Lezant Parish, a community of scattered villages, hamlets and farmsteads bordered six miles from Launceston, the ancient capital of Cornwall, and twenty miles from the centre of Plymouth. Parents occupations and backgrounds are very varied - farmers, locally employed and self-employed people as well as commuters. A growing number of families travel from the nearby town of Launceston. We are especially suited to those who prefer a small school community. The children have a big say in the way they want to make their time at school and the style in which they learn so that they have the best opportunity for self-discovery. In three words:
LIVING, LAUGHING & LEARNING !

A Place Where Children Want to Learn
We have 54 children on roll. They are taught in three small classes in the morning and two classes in the afternoon, where the pupil to teacher ratio is an average of 1:18. We are part of a `cluster` with two other small schools and we arrange termly events where the children from all three schools can socialise together. We are a `feeder` school for both Callington College and Launceston College and benefit from close curriculum links with both schools. We have Healthy Schools status, The Active Mark, Extended School status and form part of the Schools Sports Partnership. |
