Dear Parents

We seem to have come very quickly to the end of the first half of the Summer term.  The final part of the school year is already very busy with many trips and activities planned.

The children have now completed their SATs and optional SATS.  We will advise parents of their year’s progress in July.

We presently have another Governor vacancy – if any parent or friend of the school would be interested, please let me know.

Finally, may I wish you a good half term break and I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 3rd June.

Cluster Trips to Hidden Valley Discovery Park

After half-term, we will be taking the children to Hidden Valley Discovery Park, at Tredidion, beyond Trethorne.   There will be 3 trips taking place.  The dates and classes are

Tuesday 3rd June for Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 children - this is the first day back for                                                                                                                      pupils after half-term.

Tuesday 10th June for Years 3 & Year 4

Tuesday 17th June for Years 5 & 6

Transport has now been arranged so there will be no need for you to take the children there as previously mentioned.  They will be collected from here after registration and brought back before the end of school.  Therefore we are asking for a contribution of £2.00 towards the transport and admission costs.

Each child will need clothing suitable for outside activities, including footwear – no open toe sandals, sun hat and sun screen and a coat. Children will also need a packed lunch and a drink.

As Class 1 will be going on the first day back after the half term holiday, please could we have permission slips in by Friday 23rd May.

HEAD LICE:  We unfortunately seem to have yet another outbreak of head lice in the school. May we please remind everyone that constant head checking and treatment where necessary is the only way that children can be kept free of head lice.  It would also be appreciated if children with hair long enough to be fastened back, do wear it tied back for school.

The current recommendation from Cornwall County Council, is that hair should be checked weekly while wet using a detection comb.  Treatment should only be started when live lice are found; then close contacts, such as family members should be carefully checked and treated.  Recently, approaches to the treatment of head lice have altered.  It is now recommended that both wet combing and insecticides should be used together.  It is possible to use either method on its own but this is less likely to be as effective.

We have been recommended a comb ‘Nitty Gritty Nit Free Head Lice Comb’ as being extremely thorough –available through the internet or telephone orders

PTA News

Our Summer Fayre and the school’s Mid Summers Nights Dream performance has now been re-scheduled for the 19th July (as the event clashed with the Church Fete).  We will have lots on offer this day including a Tug of War and a Family Rounders Match to name but a few!  Stalls will include tea and cakes, tombola, bar, BBQ, stalls run by the children, plus more!  A car boot sale is open to all and cost is £5 per car.

We would like to have a rota system at the Summer Fayre so everyone can enjoy the day.  So if you are able to spare half hour or so on the bar, tombola, BBQ etc please let Marcelle (tel. 01566 782243) or a PTA member know before our next meeting.

We are in the process of organising a Disco/Proms Evening for the children at the end of term.  More details to follow!

Our next meeting will be on Monday 16th June 7.30pm at school.

SPORT and CLUBS

FOOTBALL: We sadly lost our games against Lewannick and Egloskerry.  However our team played extremely well and we were very impressed with their attitude.

There will be no more football club after school.

MULTI SKILLS SUMMER SPORTS  Mr Reardon and Mrs Stanbury – one of our colleagues from Callington Community College, will be holding summer sports club on Mondays after school, for all children starting on Monday 9th June instead of Football Club.

Children must have suitable outdoor PE kit to take part.  If your child would like to participate in either club, please sign the permission slip.   The club will end at 4.00pm for KS1 children and 4.15pm for KS2 children. Thank you.
