10 Apr 2008 - Newsletter
Dear Parents
Welcome back to the summer term. I hope you all enjoyed the Easter holiday. We have a very busy term ahead of us with school trips and sporting events to keep us busy.
It was lovely to see you all at our traditional end of term Easter egg events. All the winners are listed further on in the newsletter, but congratulations to you all for taking part in both the egg decorating and the eggashute.
We are in desperate need for a volunteer to help marshall the cycling proficiency on Tuesdays. Anybody interested in helping Netball Club would also be greatly welcomed.
David Reardon
Headteacher

We had a very successful Sport relief afternoon at the end of last term. Class 2 organised several activities which raised over £55. Well done to everyone who took part and donated money. We are also very pleased to inform you that Philip and Ruby did a sponsored swim and raised a staggering £144. This was a huge effort for the charity. Thank you to everyone who supported the fund raising.
Request from Class 1 Mrs Cayzer is hoping to plant some vegetables and would like clean egg shells to deter the slugs and snails. Also in the classroom this term, we are having a Hospital play area. We would be grateful for any empty, washed medicine bottles or containers. Thank you.
Breakfast Club We are very pleased to inform you that Mrs Wakely will continue to run the Breakfast Club from 7.45am 8.45am on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The cost will remain at £2.20 per child per session.
Easter Activities Well done to everyone who took part and special mention to Lucy, Raven, James and Ruby who all won the best egg decoration competition. The egg rolling was won by Lowenna, Louis, Matilda and Harley and finally the eggashute was won by Yasmin and Rory.
SCHOOL BOOK FAIR We have arranged a Book Fair for the school from Thursday 24th April to Wednesday 30th May. The fair will run for approximately 30 minutes after school each day in the library. We are also happy for parents to have a child free time from 3.00pm if needed. If there are any parents who could spare some time from 3.00pm on any of the days to help man the stalls, please let us know. The school will receive a commission if enough books are sold, which will enable us to update our own reading material. Attached to the newsletter is an order form if you are unable to attend in person. All orders should be received by the school by Tuesday 29th April. Thank you.
SCHOOL DINNERS: The price for school dinners is £1.76 per day, £8.80per week per child.
First Half Term 33 days £58.08
Second Half Term 39 days £68.64
Whole Term 72 days £126.72
All Dinner Money should be sent to the office in an envelope, clearly marked with each childs name on it. Please do not send loose cash if possible. Cheques should be payable to Cornwall County Council.
The meal menus for the school dinners are enclosed with the newsletter.
PTA News
Our Easter Egg Hunt was a fantastic success! We made £150, had a beautiful walk through some lovely countryside and had a jolly social up the club! Not bad for a Sunday afternoon. Many thanks to everybody who came, contributed eggs and helped out. Also a big thank you to Jo and James Ryder for letting us use their farm as a big car park and walk on their land. It was a brilliant day!
Congratulations to Marlene Puffett who won the Ride Around the World competition! Thanks to everyone who brought tickets we made £91!
Our next event is The Body Shop Party on Thursday 24th April at 7.30pm to be held at Sue Cheesemans house (Ravens mum). Sues address is 20 Robin Drive, Launceston (turn right at the roundabout before Tesco's - halfway along road on right Sues house is one of three houses in a cul-de-sac). A good time to stock up on essentials and sun tan cream! This is a relaxing, fun evening and Lynsey our demonstrator will need a couple of people to do a make over on! The Body Shop catalogue will be in the school office if unable to come on the night. Please RSVP Sue or a PTA committee member.
Our forthcoming event is the 70s Disco Night! So get on e-bay, down Pats greetings cards or route in the parents wardrobe for that perfect outfit! We want you all dressed up and raring to go on Saturday 3rd May down Treburley Club. Ticket price is £5.00 per person and includes free drink of sangria, buffet and voting card for best dressed person. This will be a really fun evening!
Our next meeting is on Thursday, 17th April 7.30pm at school.
SPORT & CLUBS
All after school clubs except Running Club will start next week
FOOTBALL:
On Thursday 17th April, we will be playing against Werrington at the Multi-Use Games Area at Launceston College. Permission slips are enclosed with the newsletter.
NETBALL: We had a wonderful result at the recent High 5 tournament, where we won 6 out of 7 games. We will now be taking part in the area finals at Budehaven on Tuesday 22nd April. This was a superb team effort and well done to all our players Rosie, Alice, Sarah, Ruby, Esme, Aaron Howard, Harley and William Regan.
ATHLETICS: Running Club will start on Friday 11th April
CYCLE CLUB: The cycle proficiency club will start on Tuesday 15th April for 10 & 11 year olds only and will run for four weeks with WPC Sharon Chinn (if there are any year 5 children interested, we may now be able to accommodate them). All children will need their own bikes, and helmets which can be brought to the school in the morning if needed. Registration forms are enclosed with the newsletter and should be returned to the school before Tuesday. Children will not be able to take part unless we have a signed form.
We are also in urgent need of a parent helper to assist with supervision. Please let us know if you are able to help. The club will finish at 5.00pm.
WPC Chinn is able to offer children from years 3 & 4 a playground based session, which will teach basic balance, control and safety skills. It is not designed to teach children how to ride on the road, but as a preliminary to Cyclewise.
There will be a maximum of 10 spaces available and the sessions will start in June. Again all children must have their own bike and helmet. If you are interested, please complete the permission slip below and return it to the office. As spaces are limited, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
NATURE CLUB This term, Ms Ward will be running a Nature Club during lunchtimes on Tuesdays, starting 22nd April. This will be open from Year 2 children and upwards.
